State Surplus Vehicles - State Agency Procedures to Surplus
How To
Process your vehicle(s) to send to auction:
- Complete a DPS-29 for each vehicle
- Verify the VIN on the DPS-29 with the VIN on the actual vehicle
- Ensure the MILEAGE is correct**
- Fill in the CODING section
- Sign the DPS-29
**If mileage is incorrect on the DPS-29 it could result in an incorrect title being produced. This could void a sale, if not noticed, and/or cause delays when a request for title correction is sent to DMV. If mileage is unknown and cannot be verified, enter TMU for mileage.
- Locate the original Certificate of Origin, Title, or court documents if it is a seized vehicle or asset forfeiture (if it is a seized vehicle or asset forfeiture, please be specific as to which). If an original Certificate of Origin or Title cannot be located, obtain and complete a Motor Vehicle Q-1 form from the DMV, along with a Lost CO Letter. A Q-1 form is needed for asset forfeiture/seized property vehicles, but a letter is not.
- Sign the Certificate of Origin/Title as the seller. Leave the mileage and the 'buyer/sold to' areas blank on this form.
- Email Kristin Wright at the Property Room, and the DAS Surplus team with the DPS-29 attached in Excel format. The information will be entered in the vendor data system and Property Room will send a manifest. Have the tow truck driver sign this manifest at pickup and keep for your records.
- Have a copy of the DPS-29 and keys ready for the tow company when they pick up the vehicle.
- Mail completed originals (DPS-29, CO/Title/Q-1, Letter/Court Docs) to:
