State Surplus Vehicles - State Agency and Municipality Procedures to Purchase

Overview

The Department of Administrative Services, Surplus Property Program is the legally authorized agent in the State for the disposition of all usable property that a state agency deems surplus to its operating needs, including vehicles.

State agencies and municipalities may view and purchase surplus state vehicles prior to the vehicles being offered at public auction. Vehicles that were seized/forfeited are not eligible for reallocation to agencies or municipalities.

It is important to note that depending upon state business needs, there is not a predictable way to forecast what vehicles will become available and when they will become available.

If surplus vehicles are not purchased by an agency or municipality during the reallocation period, the vehicle(s) become available for auction. Auctions are held online through the Property Room.
