OPM Secretary Ben Barnes Says Malloy Administration Has Plan in Place To Deal with Cut in Federal Funding for Heating Assistance
Benjamin Barnes, Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s Secretary of the Office of Policy and Management, released the following statement about the Administration’s proposal to refocus its home heating funding program, after a cut in federal funding to the state. While the exact amount of funding from the federal government is unknown at this time, budget analysts expect the program to cost approximately $120 million, which is about $73 million more than is expected to be available.

Gov. Malloy Announces Federal Assistance for Individuals Nearing $2 Million for Tropical Storm Irene

Gov. Malloy Announces Increased Staffing at State Crime Lab
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that funding has been authorized for increased staffing at the State Crime Lab. The funding is a reallocation of existing resources. In recent years, the lab has struggled to keep up with a dramatic increase in its workload and reductions in its professional staff.

Friday: Gov. Malloy Attends BD Anniversary Celebration in Canaan, Speaks at Inauguration of UConn President Herbst
On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will visit BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) to attend the celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary of its Canaan facility. BD is a leading global medical technology company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems and reagents. The company employs about 350 workers at its Canaan facility, which opened in 1961.

Gov. Malloy Appoints Members of S.T.O.R.M. Irene Panel
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today appointed members to the State Team Organized for the Review of Management of Irene (S.T.O.R.M. Irene) assessment team. The team, which is comprised of a group of people with diverse professional backgrounds in the military, disaster relief, municipal government, non-profit and labor sectors, will review the performance of the state and its partners – including the utilities and municipalities – in terms of the preparedness and response and recovery efforts related to Tropical Storm Irene.
