Gov. Malloy: Victory Parade Honoring the UConn Men's Basketball Team Set for Sunday, April 17 in Hartford
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Hartford Business Improvement District will host a victory parade and rally on Sunday, April 17, to congratulate and honor the University of Connecticut Men’s Basketball Team for winning the National Championship Game of the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Gov. Malloy: State Prepared for Temporary Federal Government Shutdown
To ensure that Connecticut will be prepared in case the Federal Government shuts down, Governor Malloy last week requested that all Executive Branch department heads submit an initial assessment of potential impacts of a shutdown on each agency’s programs, services, operations and employees.

Wednesday: Governor Malloy Speaks at Realtors Meeting, Attends Electric Vehicle Charging Station Event, Visits CT Invention Convention, Addresses Home Builders Meeting, Gives Remarks at Opening of CT
On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will speak at the annual meeting of the Connecticut Association of Realtors in Hartford. Also on Wednesday morning, Governor Malloy will join The Hartford’s CEO Liam McGee to unveil new electric vehicle charging stations at The Hartford’s headquarters and participate in a ceremonial first charge of an electric vehicle. The Hartford is one of the first companies in the Hartford area to provide charging stations for its employees.

Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Submits Robust Application for $227 Million of Florida-s Declined Rail Money
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that the state has submitted a robust application for $227 million in federal funding to complete the third phase of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) high-speed intercity passenger rail project. The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) submitted its application Monday to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) for the $227 million, which is available because the State of Florida recently decided to reject some $2.4 billion in high-speed rail money because it did not want to commit to the state matching funds.

Tuesday: Governor Malloy Attends Work Zone Safety Kick-Off Event in Newington, Holds Town Hall in New Britain
On Tuesday afternoon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give remarks at a press conference in Newington to kick off Work Zone Safety Awareness Week, an annual campaign sponsored by the Department of Transportation, State Police, CT Police Chiefs Association and the utility companies to promote the safety of workers and motorists in roadway work zones. On Tuesday evening, Governor Malloy will hold a town hall meeting in New Britain, the fifteenth stop in his statewide series of 17 town hall meetings to discuss the state’s pressing economic and budgetary issues face-to-face with state residents.

Gov. Malloy Announces Dual-Track Decision on Busway and Bristol-Waterbury Commuter Rail Line
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced his decision regarding the fate of the New Britain-Hartford Bus Rapid Transit project – better known as the “Busway” – and the Bristol/Waterbury commuter rail line. After meeting with advocates and opponents of the Busway, Governor Malloy has decided to aggressively pursue construction of the Busway while launching a parallel and equally aggressive initiative to plan for the Bristol/Waterbury commuter line. This decision will create new jobs now, as the Busway project is “ready to go,” while continuing to address the needs of commuters on the Bristol/Waterbury rail line. In addition, Governor Malloy’s decision maximizes the availability of federal funding now and going forward.

Office of Policy & Management Release Connecticut State Agencies to See Reduced Energy Rates
The Office of Policy and Management (OPM) announced today that it has secured new fixed-price contracts to supply natural gas to Connecticut’s state agencies. One contract, covering 453 natural gas accounts for the period of July 1 through September 30, 2011, will result in a price reduction of 37.7 percent. An additional contract, covering 12 fuel-switching accounts for the same period, shows a 25.1 percent reduction. OPM estimates the combined cost savings for the state at approximately $660,000.

Friday: Governor Malloy Speaks at Opening Ceremony of Robotics Competition in Hartford
On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will speak at the opening ceremony of the Northeast Utilities FIRST Connecticut Regional Robotics Competition in Hartford. The event, featuring 58 teams of students, teachers and mentors, has been held for the past seventeen years in Hartford, allowing students to work with professional engineers and develop science, technology, engineering and math skills that will apply in a work environment.
