How to Use the PURA Service List Database
The PURA Service List database includes:
- separate listings for individuals, companies, and other organizations,
- "service lists" and
- "mailing lists".
Service lists:
- are mainly used for contested cases,
- are also used for uncontested cases in which there is a service obligation,
- includes those with Party (P), Intervenor (I), To Be Served (TS) or Participant status in a docket.
Mailing lists
- are mainly used for uncontested proceedings for which there is no service obligation,
- includes those with Participant (NS) and Interested Person (IP) status.
To View a Service List for a Docket
Select "Find a-Service List by Docket Number". Select your docket number from the drop down menu and then click one of the brown buttons below (usually the first one). Note that this is a “go to” not a search—stop when you see the next docket number in the left margin. This view shows you if the individuals on the list have agreed to email service and the email address to use. Also, if you click on the underlined word at the left indicating the entity’s status in the case, you will see a screen that includes a telephone number or e-mail address if we have it.
For all other dockets: Click on Printing-Mailing List. Docket numbers are listed in reverse numerical order (highest numbers first). Use the "Previous" and "Next" buttons or "Search" to find your docket. Click on the triangle next to the number to open up the list.
To View a Mailing List for a Docket
Select "Find a Mailing List by Docket Number (No Service Obligation)". Select the docket number from the drop down menu. This view shows only entities with the status of Interested Person or Participant (NS). If you can’t find the docket number on the list, look for it in the service list view. Note that this is a true search, not a “go to” like the service list view.
To Find a Company Name, Address, or Representative
Select "Find Any Person & Company in the Service List Database". This view is sorted by company name and also shows the name and address of the company’s representative and in some cases, the telephone number as well.
To Find the Name and Address of a Company or Individual
Select "Find any Person & Company in the Service List Database". This view is sorted by the last names of individuals. It also includes some companies and other entities. A search will bring up people, companies, and even streets and towns that match the name. You can narrow the search by adding AND followed by another name. For example, if you search for Cohen you get 32 results, but if you search for Cohen AND Burton, there is only one match.
To Identify All Service Lists on Which an Individual is Included
Select "Find the Mailing Lists Associated with a Name". This view is sorted by full name (that is, first name first) rather than last name. This makes a difference when using the Next or Previous buttons, but does not affect a search. (See Tips on Searching, below.) A search brings up the all docket numbers for which the search term is found. Click on the number to see the details of the listing.
Tips on Searching
By docket numbers: Include the hyphens in the docket number: 07-04-24. If it’s a reopening, the RE extension follows the docket number immediately--no leading spaces: 95-06-17RE02. Note that the extension number begins with a zero, not the letter O.
For individuals, search for the last name alone or the first and last name joined by AND. The order does not seem to matter. However, searching for the full name in quotation marks does not work.
Narrow a search by adding terms to the search box that appears at the bottom of the screen showing the search results. For example, to search for the dockets in which Howard Slater represented a Comcast cable franchise, search for Howard AND Slater AND Comcast. To further narrow the search to the Middletown Comcast franchise, add another AND and Middletown to the search string.
If you notice errors in this database, please let us know. Minor errors can be brought to the Department’s attention by e-mailing pura.executivesecretary@ct.gov . Changes that should be brought to the attention of other participants in a docket should be submitted as a filing in the docket.
For other questions or problems, contact the Executive Secretary’s Office at 860-827-1553 or pura.executivesecretary@ct.gov.
