• 1/6/2016 Gov. Malloy: Correctional Facility in Niantic to Close as Result of Declining Prison Population

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as a result of the continuing decline in the state's prison population, the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) will close the Niantic Annex at the York Correctional Institution effective January 9, 2016.  The closure will save taxpayers approximately $7.6 million per fiscal year.  With crime at a 48-year low - dropping significantly each year - and recidivism down dramatically, the DOC currently has enough empty beds to relocate the offenders who are currently located in the Niantic Annex to other facilities within the state.

• 1/4/2016 Gov. Malloy Activates State Severe Cold Weather Protocol Through Tuesday Morning

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced he has activated the state's Severe Cold Weather Protocol in anticipation of temperatures in the teens and single digits and wind chills below zero overnight.  The protocol is effective beginning the afternoon of Monday, January 4, 2016 and will remain in effect through the morning of Tuesday, January 5.

• 12/31/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Dennis Murphy to Serve as Acting Labor Commissioner

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Dennis Murphy, who currently serves as Deputy Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL), will serve in the position of Acting Commissioner beginning Friday, January 1, 2016, while the Governor conducts a search for a permanent Commissioner.  As was announced in the fall, Sharon M. Palmer, who has served as the agency's Commissioner since August 2012, is retiring at the end of this year.

• 12/31/2015 Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Has Experienced Significant Unemployment Drops Over Last 12 Months

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that U.S. Department of Labor statistics show that over the past twelve months, Connecticut experienced the sixth largest decline in unemployment of any state in the nation.  According to the most recent federal and state data, jobless numbers dropped from 6.3 percent in November 2014 to 5.1 percent in November 2015.  That 1.2 percent decrease is among the largest nationwide.

• 12/28/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut's Minimum Wage Will Increase on January 1, 2016

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as the result of a new law he signed last year, Connecticut's minimum wage is scheduled to increase from the current rate of $9.15 an hour to $9.60 per hour on January 1, 2016.  The change is the second in a series of three scheduled increases under the adopted legislation, which will ultimately see the state's minimum wage increase to $10.10 on January 1, 2017.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy is urging drivers in Connecticut who will be partaking in festivities this holiday season as Christmas and New Year's Eve approaches to drive safely, have a plan in place to get home if they plan on consuming alcohol, and take extra precautions when getting behind the wheel.

• 12/23/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces First-of-its-Kind Jobs Training Center at New Haven Correctional Center to Further Lower Crime Rates

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as part of his Second Chance Society initiatives, the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) will host an American Job Center early next year within the New Haven Correctional Center.  Created in partnership with the Workforce Alliance and the City of New Haven, this job development program will be the first-of-its-kind in the state, and one of only 12 in the country.  The initiative aims to reduce recidivism - which has declined dramatically - and to continue lowering Connecticut's crime rate, which is at an almost 50-year low.

• 12/21/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces New Company Relocating to Connecticut, Adding Over 100 Jobs in Stamford

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, an importer and marketer of high-quality wine and spirit brands from around the world, plans to relocate its headquarters from White Plains, New York to Stamford, Connecticut. The relocation will deliver more than 100 new or relocated jobs moving into the state.

• 12/21/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Manufacturing Company Relocating to Connecticut, Adding Hundreds of Jobs in Windsor Locks

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC, the largest mattress manufacturing company in the country, plans to relocate their Massachusetts operations to Windsor Locks, resulting in approximately 200 new or relocated jobs into Connecticut.

• 12/18/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Dr. Raul Pino to Serve as Acting Commissioner of Public Health

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Dr. Raul Pino, who currently serves as Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Public Health (DPH), will serve as Acting Commissioner beginning Monday, December 21, while the Governor conducts a search for a permanent Commissioner to replace Dr. Jewel Mullen.  As was announced last month, Dr. Mullen has taken a new position with the federal Department of Health and Human Services.

• 12/17/2015 Gov. Malloy: Connecticut's Private Sector Recovers All Jobs Lost from the Great Recession

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today released the following statements regarding the Connecticut Department of Labor's monthly "Labor Situation" report for November 2015.  The report shows that Connecticut's private sector grew 5,200 jobs last month and has now recovered 113,400 of the 111,600 jobs that were lost during the Great Recession, bringing its recovery rate to 101.6 percent.  In addition, the unemployment rate is at 5.1% - its lowest level since March 2008, before the start of the recession.

• 12/15/2015 Gov. Malloy Announces Infrastructure Improvements With Upgrades to I-84 in West Hartford and Route 15 in New Haven

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that funding has been approved to advance the upgrade of two major infrastructure projects in need of improvement: I-84 in West Hartford and Route 15 between New Haven and Woodbridge.  The funds were approved as part of the Governor's ongoing "Let's Go CT!" transportation plan, which will make unprecedented investments to upgrade Connecticut's transportation system.  The Governor aims to revitalize the state's aging infrastructure to make it best-in-class, attract business, and grow jobs.
