Gov. Malloy Announces Statewide Emergency Preparedness Drill to be Held October 29 and November 2
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut will conduct a two-day statewide emergency preparedness drill designed to simulate a major ice storm on Saturday, October 29 and Wednesday, November 2, 2016. Coordinated by the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's (DESPP) Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS), and involving the state government, local governments, and utility companies, the exercise is designed, among other things, to improve communication among the state's partners during emergency situations.

Gov. Malloy and Congressional Delegation Announce $1.6 Million Grant to Fund Apprenticeship Training for Aerospace Manufacturing Jobs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and the members of Connecticut's Congressional delegation today announced that the Connecticut Department of Labor's Office of Apprenticeship Training has been awarded a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to assist the efforts of the state apprenticeship training program that targets the aerospace manufacturing and maintenance sector, known as the Connecticut Apprenticeship Expansion Rx project.

Gov. Malloy Says New State Law Will Bolster Efforts to Increase Diversity and Maintain the High Quality Expertise Among Connecticut's Teachers
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that a new state law he signed will advance the state's efforts to improve in the recruitment and retention of minority teachers in an effort to increase diversity in the classroom and ensure the state can continue to provide high-quality education for all of its students. The Governor and State Department of Education (SDE) Commissioner Dianna Wentzell held a roundtable discussion on the topic this morning at Carmen Arace Middle School in Bloomfield to highlight these efforts.

Gov. Malloy Asks FEMA to Participate in State's Efforts to Assist Homeowners with Crumbling Foundations
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has submitted a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), asking the agency to establish a field office in northeastern Connecticut that would conduct a preliminary damage assessment for the purpose of determining the extent and impact of the approximately 34,130 homes in the area with foundations that are at risk of crumbling and actually collapsing due to what the state believes is the result of a natural disaster, according to the result of information obtained over the course of its investigation into this ongoing situation.

Gov. Malloy Appoints Arthur House as State's Chief Cyber Security Risk Officer

Malloy today announced that he is appointing Art House of Simsbury to serve in the newly created position of the state's Chief Cyber Security Risk Officer, where he will be responsible for working to enhance cybersecurity prevention and protection efforts in a comprehensive, cross-agency and cross-sector manner.

Gov. Malloy Says the State is Continuing to Make Progress Building the Hartford Commuter Rail Line as State-of-the-Art Construction Machine Begins Operations
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James P. Redeker today unveiled the mammoth Track Construction Machine (TCM) that is now being used to double-track portions of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) passenger rail line, which is now being branded as the CTrail Hartford Line. Building a second track parallel to the existing single track, which is currently used by Amtrak trains, will allow more frequent train service and more efficient train movements when the CTrail Hartford Line, which will allow frequent, commuter rail service between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield, begins operations in January 2018.

Gov. Malloy: Flags to Fly Half-Staff Sunday in Recognition of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that - in accordance with a proclamation from President Barack Obama and Public Law 107-51 - U.S. and state flags in Connecticut will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, October 9, 2016, in recognition of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, an annual observance honoring the sacrifices of fallen firefighters throughout the country.

Gov. Malloy Applauds Report Showing Connecticut Ranks First in the Nation in Childhood Vaccinations

Gov. Malloy Announces Henkel Corporation Moving Headquarters Across the Country and Creating Hundreds of Jobs in Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is applauding the decision of Germany-based Henkel Corporation to relocate its Laundry & Home Care and Beauty Care headquarters across the country from Arizona to Stamford, Connecticut, where the company plans on expanding in a $50 million project that will create up to 266 new jobs in the state.

Malloy today announced that the State Bond Commission has approved funding to upgrade and improve the Department of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) outdated customer contact center into a modernized system that will give customers even more convenient options when conducting business in an effort to decrease the amount of time customers may often experience on hold when making telephone calls to the center.
