Reinstatement of a Lapsed License

Before applying for licensure, please familiarize yourself with the general licensing policies.

 

An applicant for reinstatement of a Connecticut license that has lapsed due to nonrenewal shall arrange for the following documentation to be submitted directly to this office from the source:

 

A completed, notarized application with photo and fee in the amount of $565.00 in the form of a bank check or money order payable to, “Treasurer, State of Connecticut”;


The applicant’s current curriculum vitae (CV) or synopsis of professional activity since completion of the applicant's psychology program;

 

Verification of all licenses held, current or expired.  The verification of licensure form  should be forwarded to the appropriate authority in any U.S. state or territory in which the applicant is or has ever been licensed as a psychologist.   Most jurisdictions charge a fee for completion of the verification form; please contact the jurisdiction for fee information;

 

Verification from the appropriate authority confirming most recent employment; including dates and overall evaluation of the applicant's ability to practice psychology with reasonable skill and safety.  If  in private practice, a letter from another psychologist or psychiatrist with whom the applicant has a referral relationship.  Such letter shall indicate dates of the referral relationship and an evaluation of the applicant's ability to practice psychology with reasonable skill and safety. 

 

Any licensee whose license has become void for one year or more and who applies to the department for reinstatement must submit verification of completion of ten (10) hours of continuing education within the one-year period immediately preceding the date of application for reinstatement.

 

Examination Requirements

 

Applicants for reinstatement are required to sit for and pass the Connecticut Jurisprudence examination. This examination consists of twenty-five (25) multiple-choice items; at least eighteen (18) questions must be answered correctly in order to pass.  This examination is administered six (6) times per year.  Please indicate on your application the administration for which you are applying. Applicants for reinstatement who have not been in the active, clinical practice of psychology for longer than six (6) months are reviewed by the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Psychologists.  The Board meets quarterly.  Typically, applicants for reinstatement who have not been in active, clinical practice for longer than five years are required to complete a period of refresher training.  Applicants will receive further information from the Department upon receipt of all required documentation.
