Tdap Coccooning
Infant Pertussis Prevention. Pertussis can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening complications in infants, especially within the first 6 months of life. The best way to protect against pertussis is immunization. The strategy of protecting infants from pertussis by vaccinating those in close contact with them is known as “cocooning”. The tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine has been recommended since 2005 for adults who have not previously received a dose with expected close contact with newborns.The Tdap Cocoon Program was created to help implement the cocooning strategy in Connecticut, to help protect infants from pertussis
