To help improve efficiency, Governor Malloy asked agencies to use the LeanCT method. The Division of Scientific Services (DSS) created the Case Management Unit in 2013 as part of this effort. The main job of this unit is to connect submitting agencies with forensic examiners.
The Case Management team fields questions from Attorneys, State Police and Local Police departments regarding priority cases, upcoming trials, discovery packages and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. They can assist when agencies have questions regarding the most appropriate evidence to submit or the best analysis to pursue. They can assist in finding out the status of a case or having cases prioritized.
The Unit triages cases to ensure they are analyzed in a manner that is best for the specific cases’ needs. They identify high priority cases, working closely with the different Laboratory unit supervisors to ensure the proper flow of cases.
