Forest Health, Fire and Management
Forest Health
Our goal is to help educate the public about the factors that can affect forest health. We work in cooperation with state, federal, and municipal agencies to detect, manage, and treat all factors that negatively impact our state forests.
CT DEEP maintains an active forest fire prevention program and a specially-trained force of fire fighting personnel to combat fires that burn an average of 500 acres of woodland per year. We also employ fire in the form of prescribed burns as an ecosystem management tool.
We provide resources and information to aid landowners in their forest management.
CT DEEP manages approximately 170,000 acres of state land to meet the diverse needs of each State Forest.
