Overview
A Connecticut Hoisting Equipment Operator License is required to operate hoisting equipment meeting all of the following criteria:
- Motorized equipment;
- Used in construction, demolition or excavation work;
- At a construction site of a project that
a. Is other than residential structures of less than four stories and
b. Estimated cost of which is more than $1,250,000; - With manufacturer’s rated lifting capacity exceeding 5 tons; and
- Manufacturer’s rated maximum reach in excess of 32 feet.
If your equipment does not meet ALL of the above, it is not regulated by this department.
This is a two-year license.
All applicants are required to take and pass a written exam. The exam is given approximately every four to eight weeks. Exam dates and locations are notified by mail.
