Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements on the Supreme Court’s decision on Janus v. AFSCME, determining that public sector unions can no longer collect fair share dues from employees who opt not to belong to a union – even though the union is required by law to represent workers in union jobs.

Today, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman and radio personality Brad Davis hosted the 11th annual Wall of Honor ceremony at the State Capitol in Hartford. Joined by Major General Thad Martin, Adjutant General of the Connecticut National Guard, Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Thomas J. Saadi, state officials, and military families, the event commemorates the Connecticut troops killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day, a national observance that pays tribute to local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Governor Nancy Wyman, and First Lady Cathy Malloy are applauding the State Senate for voting 36-0 today in favor of legislation that will codify into law specific practices the Malloy administration enacted in recent years in an effort to improve the processing of sexual assault evidence kits at the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory and ensure that victims are treated in a compassionate way throughout the process.
