(HARTFORD, CT) – With bitter winter cold temperatures expected over the next several days, Governor Dannel P. Malloy today directed the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS), the Department of Social Services (DSS) and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) to coordinate with 2-1-1 and Connecticut’s network of shelters to ensure that the state’s most vulnerable people are protected.

Gov. Malloy: State Agencies Moving to Assist Residents Facing Loss of Unemployment Benefits
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today directed Connecticut Department of Labor (DOL) Commissioner Glenn Marshall and Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Roderick Bremby to begin implementing their plan to bring targeted services to individuals and families who are losing their unemployment benefits as a result of the state’s declining unemployment rate.

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection today encouraged anyone who needs shelter from the first bitter cold temperatures of the season to call 2-1-1. The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection and the Department of Social Services, at the Governor’s direction, is coordinating with 2-1-1 and Connecticut’s network of shelters to provide the state’s most vulnerable population with access to sheltering.

State’s Food Stamp Recipients Can Apply for Extra Help
HARTFORD -- Current recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, also known as food stamps) can apply for replacement benefits if they lost food from storm-related power outage, Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby said today. To be eligible, recipients must have lost food costing more than 15% of their October SNAP benefit amount. Reports may be made by calling 2-1-1 or visiting www.211ct.org by midnight Saturday, Nov. 19.
