Eligibility
Medicaid for Employees with Disabilities (MED-Connect or S05) is a program for those individuals who have a medically certified disability or blindness and are working for pay.
Income Guidelines 2019
Enrollees can have income up to $75,000 per year, and qualify for full Medicaid/HUSKY Health coverage. Some or all the income must be from employment earnings. Only the applicant’s income counts to determine program eligibility.*
Asset Guidelines 2019
Countable asset limit of $10,000 for an individual and $15,000 for a couple.
Additional Requirement for Medically Improved Group
Persons who have lost disability status with the Social Security Administration, but still have a severe medical impairment can continue to receive Medicaid under MED-Connect if they meet the minimum earnings criteria. Must be earning at least 40 times the federal hourly minimum wage, currently set at $$7.25 (cannot exceed $6,250 per month total countable income).
Premiums
Med-Connect beneficiaries may have to pay monthly premiums.*Spouse’s income counted when determining monthly premium amounts. Household size affect premiums.
if countable income is below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) no premium cost
if countable income is over 200% FPL the premium cost is based on 10% of income above the limit. There is an exception for individuals whose net family income is between 250% and 450% of the FPL. These individuals pay a maximum of 7.5% of their net family income.
Federal Poverty Level 2019
Individual = $2082 monthly Couple = $2820 monthly
Premium Example: if you are single and your monthly income is $3082, your income is above the 200% FPL amount of $2082.00. Take $3082 minus $2082.00 equals $1000.00. You exceed 200% FPL (the free premium limit) by $1000. The premium is 10% of this excess amount. The 10% of $1000=$10.00 (.10 x 100). Your monthly premium is $100.00.
If required to pay premiums and you do not pay the minimum due, you will lose coverage under Med-Connect Medicaid. Any unpaid premium balance must be paid to get back on Med-Connect coverage, even if you meet all the other Med-Connect group criteria.
