Agent for Service of Process

Banks and credit unions do not register agents for service of process with this department, nor is the Banking Commissioner an agent for service of process on financial institutions.

Please see Section 52-57 of the Connecticut General Statutes for the statutory guidelines for service of process upon corporations.

If an out-of-state or federal bank or credit union doing business in Connecticut is required to register with the Secretary of the State, that office may have the name and contact information for the bank or credit union’s agent.

For executions against debts due from financial institutions pursuant to § 52-367a or § 52-367b of the Connecticut General Statutes, banking institutions are required to file certain information for service of executions with the Secretary of the State.

You can check the Secretary of the State’s website or call their Business Services Division at (860) 509-6002 to obtain information for banking institutions required to register with their office or the information for service of executions against debts due from financial institutions.

You can find the main office address and name of the president or CEO of a bank that has an office in Connecticut on our Find a Bank page, and the main office address for a credit union that has an office in Connecticut on our Find a Credit Union page.
