Two-Year Photo License Renewal for
Individuals 65 or Over
***EXTENSION OFFERED: DMV is offering extensions to Connecticut residents with expiring driver’s licenses, ID cards and learner’s permit’s. No late fees will be assessed for eligible credentials. Learn more.
Credentials that expire between March 10, 2020 and May 31, 2020 remain valid until November 30, 2020.
Credentials that expire between June 1, 2020 and November 30, 2020 remain valid until December 31, 2020.
"REAL ID" IS HERE: Starting October 1, 2021, the U.S. Federal Government will require anyone boarding an airplane for domestic travel or entering certain federal buildings to have a "verified" driver's license or state-issued ID card, or be required to show additional proof of identification, such as a passport. Individuals who have reached the age of 65 can request a two year photo license renewal. You must be at least 65 years of age on the day you request the two year photo license renewal. Your current license serves as proof of date of birth. Drive Only customers are not eligible for a two-year license.
The cost for a two-year license renewal is $24. This service is provided by appointment only.

NOTE: A $25 late fee will be charged for the renewal of an expired driver's license.
A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) can not be renewed for two years. A CDL must be renewed for four years.
When renewing, you will keep your expiring license/ID and receive a temporary paper card. For more on this, please see Central Issuance. After visiting an office, your license will be mailed to you. Track the delivery of your new card.
Note: If your license is suspended here or in any other state, your license will not be renewed until your license privilege is restored.
