Emergency Department Recovery Coach Services
In March 2017, DMHAS funded the CT Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) to launch a new program that sends Recovery Coaches into hospital emergency departments to connect with individuals who arrive in the ED with opioid overdoses and other drug- and alcohol-related crises. These coaches are trained as skilled professionals who can engage patients, family members and hospital personnel, and who can carry the message of recovery and hope. They help patients find recovery resources that enable them to move from crisis into recovery.
The following hospitals have Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with CCAR that authorizes CCAR staff to interview and assist emergency department patients:
- Manchester Hospital, Manchester, CT
- Windham Hospital, Willimantic, CT
- Backus Hospital, Norwich, CT
- Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, New London, CT
As a result of federal funding the State received beginning in 2017, an additional 11 hospitals are able to be served by CCAR Recovery Coaches and currently have short-term MOUs:

- Charlotte-Hungerford Hospital (Torrington)
- Danbury Hospital (Danbury)
- Day Kimball Hospital (Putnam)
- Hartford Hospital (Hartford)
- Hospital of Central CT (New Britain)
- Johnson Memorial (Stafford Springs)
- Mid State Medical Center (Meriden)
- Middlesex Hospital (Middletown)
- Rockville General (Rockville)
- St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center (Hartford)
- St. Mary’s Hospital (Waterbury)
- St. Vincent's Medical Center (Bridgeport)
- Stamford Hospital (Stamford)
