Troopers from Troop D in Danielson responded and searched the area for the suspect and secured the scene. State Police Detectives responded to conduct the criminal investigation.  Detectives processed the scene, gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Detectives learned that just before 7:00 PM, a male subject entered the shop, approached the counter and asked for two packs of cigarettes. The clerk turned to get the cigarettes and the subject pulled out a black semi-automatic-type handgun. The suspect demanded money from the clerk and fled the scene on foot behind the Xtra Mart Store to a waiting vehicle parked on the west side of Xtra Mart. The suspect was described as a white male, 40’s, 5’8” tall, medium build, unshaven for a couple of days, wearing a brown long hoodie with the hood up and carrying a blue backpack. The suspect vehicle was described as a bluish-colored 4-door sedan, exiting eastbound on Rt.101. No one was injured. Approximately $600.00 cash was stolen in the robbery.

On October 20, 2011, Detectives identified a blue vehicle from Danielson that was used in this crime. Investigation led to identification of the suspect in the robbery as Gianni Cassata, DOB: 08/03/1974, of no certain address. Cassata and other subjects were interviewed and arrest warrants were obtained as a result of this investigation.

On October 20, 2011 at 10:20 PM, Detectives arrested Gianni Cassata for Robbery 1St degree, Larceny 5th Degree, and Brandishing a Facsimile firearm. He was processed at Troop D and held on $20,000.00 cash or surety bond pending court in Danielson on October 21, 2011.
