        STATE POLICE APPREHEND SUSPECT IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASE

   On 01/24/11, in the early afternoon, the Newington Police Department advised all surrounding police departments that the accused in this case had assaulted his girlfriend and fled the scene in his vehicle. The accused was reportedly armed and stated that he wanted to do harm to himself.

   A State Trooper spotted the accused driving on Interstate 91 southbound and attempted to stop him.  He engaged the Trooper in a pursuit.  The accused exited I-91 at exit #33, struck the pursuing State Police Cruiser and continued to flee.

   While attempting to flee, the accused then struck the center median barrier and, as he attempted to flee again from the scene of this accident, the accused rammed a second State Police Cruiser who responded to assist in apprehending the accused.

   The accused's vehicle was boxed in by the two Troopers. The troopers ordered the accused from the vehicle.  He displayed a knife and threatened the two Troopers with the knife while holding it against his own neck. 

   Troopers gained access to the accused and one Trooper utilized his taser against the accused, who was subsequently taken into custody without further incident or injury to himself or police personnel on scene.

   The accused was transported to Hartford Hospital where he was treated and released.

The accused was them transported by a Trooper to State Police Troop H where he was processed and held on a $760,000 dollars bond.

CHARGES:   Reckless Driving, Engaging Police in Pursuit

                Reckless Endangerment,  Criminal Mischief

                Assault on police officer

   The accused will be presented at the Hartford Superior Court G.A. #14 today 01/25/11. The accused was also processed and held on five separate PRAWN Arrest Warrants.  Newington Police will investigate the domestic violence case.
