The Connecticut State Police were placed on full alert by State Police Colonel Danny Stebbins. All off duty Troopers were placed on standby and were prepared to respond to duty if the storm situation worsened. 

As the storm progressed the on-duty patrol troopers were supplemented by some Troopers being called into work to double up many of the  patrols on the highways and in town so f Connecticut. This enabled Troopers to reach stranded motorists and accidents more efficiently in an attempt to keep the highway open and flowing for DOT plows to perform their work. 

The snow storm started at about 10:00 p.m. on 1/11/11 and ended at approximately 10:00 p.m. on 01/12/11.  During the storm Troopers responded to 69 vehicle crashes, 3 of those crashes produce non life threatening injury.   

Troopers also responded to 1776 calls for service on the roads and highways of Connecticut.  These calls included motorists becoming stuck in snow banks. spin out off the road, unable to move due to slippery roads, running out of gas, vehicle breakdowns etc…..

State Police are again reminding motorist the reduce speeds as there are slippery spots on many roads, highways, entrance and exit ramps across the state.  DOT and Town Crews are continuing the clean-up process. Homeowners should not throw snow from driveways or sidewalks onto the streets. Troopers are also advising home owners to attempt to reduce the snow pile heights at driveway entrances to increase ones sightline to oncoming traffic.
