ACCUSED RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL, PRESENTED IN COURT

Today, March 8, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., the accused, John Belanger, was released from Yale-New Haven Hospital and transported by State Troopers to Troop F in Westbrook.

Belanger was charged with murder, processed and detained on $1,000,000 bond.  He was transported directly to GA #9 in Middletown where he was arraigned.

STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE MURDER IN CHESTER

   On Thursday, 02/25/10, at approximately 7:15 p.m. State Police at Troop F received an emergency 911 call from a home on Bailey Road in Chester where the female caller reported that her husband was forcibly breaking into her home.  In addition, the caller stated to State Police that a protective order was in place against him and then the phone suddenly went dead. 

   Troopers rushed immediately to the victim’s home and located the female victim who was suffering from what appeared to be multiple stab wounds inside the home.  EMS provided emergency care and transported the female victim to Middlesex Hospital Emergency Room where shortly after admission she was pronounced dead. The female victim was identified as BONNIE McKAY-BELANGER, DOB: 1/20/59


   The crime scene at the residence was secured and Troopers broadcast the physical description of the male suspect and suspect vehicle to all surrounding police departments. The suspect vehicle was spotted on Route 9 near Exit 2 and the male suspect was taken into custody. The accused was transported to Shoreline Clinic under State Police guard was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was admitted. He remains under State Police guard.

   

   The State Police Major Crime Squad responded to the crime scene and has processed and documented the scene.  State Police Detectives collected physical and forensic evidence at the crime scene.

   A post mortem examination of McKay-Belanger will be conducted by the Office of the Chief State's Medical Examiner to determine the manner and cause of death.

   Upon being taken into custody, the accused was charged by State Police in this case.

CHARGE: MURDER

BELANGER is being held at Yale New Haven Hospital on $1,000,000 bond and will appear in Superior Court GA #9 for arraignment when medically cleared.
