                        STATE POLICE MAKE ARREST AFTER ASSAULT

                              AT UCONN SPRING CELEBRATION EVENT

   On 04/23/10, at approximately 1:18 a.m., State Troopers assigned to the UCONN spring weekend saw what appeared to be an altercation near a pizza restaurant adjacent to campus.  Troopers immediately responded to that scene,  secured the crowd at the scene, and also provided emergency care to an unconscious male student who was later identified as JAFAR B. KARZOUN, DOB: 6/30/89, a UCONN student.  

   EMS responded to the scene and transported the male victim by ambulance to Windham Hospital where he was treated and then transferred via life star to Hartford Hospital where he is reported to be in critical condition.

   Troopers initiated a criminal investigation. State Police detectives also responded to investigate this incident. Troopers conducted numerous  interviews of witnesses and also gathered evidence which led to the arrest of the accused in this case. The accused was identified and taken into custody by Troopers.  He was transported to Troop-C where he was processed and held on bond.

ARRESTED: Edi Rapo DOB 09-24-90 of E. Hartford, CT (NON-UCONN Student). 

CHARGES: Assault 2nd degree, Breach of Peace, False Statement and Forgery 3rd degree (altered I.D.)

   Accused  Rapo was held at State Police Troop C on a $250,000.00 Cash Bond and will be presented at Rockville Superior Court G.A. 19 on 04-23-10 to be arraigned on these charges.

   No additional arrests are anticipated.
