On 02/02/10 at approx. 10:26 a.m. a resident of Sterling called State Police Troop-D to report that an unidentified man had attempted to force entry through her front door while she was home.  The caller reported that the man had fled the area upon hearing her scream.  The woman provided State Police Troop-D dispatch personnel with both a suspect and suspect vehicle description, which was immediately broadcast to troopers on patrol.  At approx. 10:40 a.m. a Trooper who was conducting motor vehicle enforcement in the area spotted a vehicle and driver fitting the description of the suspect.  The Trooper stopped the suspect vehicle, which bore no registration plates, near Main and Lake Streets in Plainfield.  Numerous items of suspected stolen property including (but not limited to) jewelry, personal checks and food were in plain view/in possession of the operator, who was identified as Christopher W. Romano (DOB 06/01/67).  Troopers searched the vehicle and located a .22 caliber rifle in the car.
Romano was positively identified as the suspect who had attempted entry into the complainant's home and he was subsequently arrested for the attempted burglary as well as numerous motor vehicle charges, possession of the rifle and possession of narcotics.
Further investigation by Troopers revealed that the suspect had burglarized three (3) additional area residences on the morning of 02/02/10.
The accused was processed at Troop-D Danielson for the above listed charges and was held on $30,000 bond.  He will be presented in court on 02/03/10 at GA-11 in Danielson.
