                  STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE EAST LYME BANK ROBBERY

   Today, 01/04/10, shortly before 1:30 p.m., State Police Troop E received a bank alarm at the Liberty Bank located on Flanders Road (Rt. 161) in East Lyme between Flanders 4 Corners and Interstate 95.

   Troopers responded to the bank and additional personnel were dispatched to the surrounding area. The responding Troopers determined that a white male with a bag or mask over his head entered the bank and implied that he had a weapon and demanded cash.  No weapon was displayed by the suspect who then fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect is described as a white male5’ 9”, 200 lbs, stocky build. The suspect was wearing a tan jacket and blue jeans.

   State Police K-9 teams responded to search the area for the suspect. The Resident State Trooper and town officers also responded to the scene.

   State Police Major Crime Squad Detectives have initiated a criminal investigation into this bank robbery. All surrounding police agencies were advised of this robbery.

   State Police are asking anyone who has any information to contact State Police.  Also if anyone saw anyone suspicious in the area of the bank at the time of the robbery they are also asked to call State Police.

   The case remains under investigation.
