         STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE EAST LYME ASSAULT

   On 08/03/08, at approximately 2:30 a.m., State Police Troopers from Troop E in Montville and Officers from the East Lyme Resident Troopers Office responded to a report of a large fight at the Days Inn Hotel on Flanders Road in East Lyme. 

   Upon arrival, Troopers and Town Officers found several parties in the hotel parking lot, including the victim, Javier Santiago, (DOB: 3/01/80), of  New London, who had sustained several lacerations. The victim Santiago was transported by ambulance to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London where he was admitted for treatment of his injuries. 

   State Police Detectives responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that victim and the assailant were both attending a party in the hotel’s ballroom when they became involved in a verbal argument.  The argument continued outside and became physical at which point witnesses report that the suspect stabbed the victim then fled from the scene. 

   State Police gathered physical evidence at the scene and conducted numerous witness interviews.  This criminal investigation into this assault is ongoing.
