Commercial Fishery Possession Limits
April 1, 2019
NOTICE

Summer flounder
Effective immediately the landing limit for the commercial harvest of summer flounder will be to 800 pounds per week (0001 hours Sunday through 2359 hours on Saturday.)

At the joint meeting in March of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Summer Flounder, Scup and Black Sea Bass Board and the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council, the Board and Council approved an increase a 49% increase in the 2019 coastwide commercial summer flounder quota from the interim quota that was previously approved in 2018. The Department estimates that at the current rate of landings, the quota allocated to the ‘Winter 1’ summer flounder fishery (25%) will not harvested by the end of April and that an increase in the landing rate is required.
For more information about the commercial summer flounder quota increase, see the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council’s web site at: www.MAFMC.org and click on the link to the Summer Flounder 2019 – 2021 Specifications Fact Sheet.

For current commercial fishery trip limits and quota status, call 860-434-6374 24/7 for a recorded message of current possession limits, or see:

The Department monitors landings and adjusts trip limits according to Department regulations in an attempt to provide fishing opportunity throughout the year for all participants in the commercial fishery. In addition, the Department strives to provide advance notification of trip limit changes, although this may not always be possible due to rapidly escalating or unanticipated landings. In such circumstances, only a short notification period may be possible.
