Missing Meriden Teenager Recovered

Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police announced that the body of Jay Agli, age 17, of Meriden was recovered at 11:46 a.m. today, June 13, by the State Police Dive Team in the Connecticut River.  He was recovered south of Haddam Island – off Haddam Meadows State Park – near where he went into the water on Sunday.  EnCon Police are continuing to investigate and the State Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
Background Information
At approximately 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2017, State Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police were notified that a 17-year old male from Meriden was missing after having been on a sandbar in the Connecticut River off Haddam Meadows State Park, Haddam. He reportedly had gone into the river to assist his 19-year old sister who had fallen from the sand bar into the water.  His sister was picked up by a nearby boater.
A search took place by land, vessels and dive teams. State EnCon Police, State Police, US Coast Guard, Haddam Fire Department, Chester Fire Department, and Middletown Fire Department and Dive Team and Police Department were involved in the search.
