Open Space - Grants and Financial Assistance
Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant Program
(CGS Section 7-131d to 7-131k, inclusive)
The State's open space financial aid program available to towns, non-profit land conservation organizations, and water companies to acquire land for the protection of local outdoor recreation, unique natural features, fish and wildlife habitat, and land which can be classified as Class I or Class II water supply property.

Grants may be awarded for the purchase of land as open space that is:
- Valuable for recreation, forestry, fishing, conservation of wildlife or natural resources;
- A prime natural feature of the state's landscape;
- Habitat for native plant or animal species listed as threatened, endangered or of special concern;
- A relatively undisturbed outstanding example of a native ecological community which is uncommon;
- Important for enhancing and conserving water quality;
- Valuable for preserving local agricultural heritage; or
- Eligible to be classified as Class I or Class II watershed land (water companies only).
