  Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that Connecticut has joined 18 other attorneys general in a federal lawsuit against Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and the United States Department of Education that seeks to stop the department's abandonment of new rules to hold abusive colleges and universities accountable for misconduct and to relieve their students from federal loan indebtedness incurred as a result of misconduct.

  Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. • State Joins Multistate Settlement with PointRoll to Resolve Internet Privacy Allegations

  Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein today announced that Connecticut has joined a $750,000 multistate settlement with digital advertising company PointRoll, Inc. that resolves an investigation into whether the company violated consumers' privacy by unlawfully circumventing the privacy settings in Apple Inc.'s Safari Web browser.

  The Department of Consumer Protection and Office of the Attorney General continue to receive complaints and inquiries from consumers worried about telephone calls in which the caller claims to be an official from the IRS and attempts to solicit tax payments.

Rubenstein today announced that Connecticut has joined 44 other states in a $3.8 million settlement with Sirius XM Radio Inc. that resolves claims that the satellite radio company engaged in misleading advertising and billing practices.

• Settlement Will Provide $4.5M to PURA for Electric Supplier Enforcement, Consumer Education

  The state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority will receive $4.5 million for consumer assistance and education and enforcement activity related to third-party electric suppliers under a settlement agreement with electric supplier Energy Plus Holdings, LLC, Attorney General George Jepsen and Consumer Counsel Elin Swanson Katz said today.

• North Branford Student Is Winner of Law Day Essay Competition
