MELLEKAS SWORN IN AS STATE POLICE COLONEL

(MIDDLETOWN, CT – January 23, 2019) – The Connecticut State Police promoted Stavros Mellekas to Colonel during a ceremony at State Police Headquarters today.

James C. Rovella, Commissioner of the Dept. of Emergency Services and Public Protection, formally promoted Col. Mellekas during the event.  Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz also attended the ceremony.

Colonel Stavros Mellekas was promoted from Lieutenant Colonel and Commanding Officer of the Office of Field Operations and will now serve as Commanding Officer and Deputy Commissioner of the Division of State Police.  A Trooper since 1994, he previously served as Commanding Officer of the State Police Western District, in the Office of Professional Standards and other command positions.  During his quarter-century of service, he has been assigned to Troop B in North Canaan, Troop L in Litchfield, Troop I in Bethany and Troop H in Hartford. He served as a Detective with the Central District Major Crime Squad and was promoted to Sergeant in 2008, Lieutenant in 2011, Captain in 2016, Major in 2016, and Lieutenant Colonel in 2018.

Col. Mellekas has earned two Medals for Meritorious Service, an Outstanding Service Medal and nine Unit Citation Awards. He earned a B.A. from St. Anselm’s College and previously served as a Police Officer at the U.S. Capitol.
