State Police Detectives Investigate Montville Police-Involved Shooting
Montville, CT. (January 30, 2017): Connecticut State Police Detectives from Eastern District Major Crime are investigating a police-involved shooting in Montville.
On January 29, 2017 at approximately 2:22 p.m., police officers from the Montville Resident State Trooper’s Office responded to the Chesterfield Lodge, located at 1596 Route 85 in the Oakdale section of Montville, for a disturbance.  Employees of the Chesterfield Lodge were reporting an unwanted person on the property.
Montville Police Officers arrived on scene and initiated an investigation.  Upon asking the unwanted person/suspect to leave the property a brief, but violent, struggle ensued between the officers and the suspect.  During the struggle the suspect was able to obtain the Taser of one of the officers and began striking the officer in the head with it repeatedly.  The officer then drew their duty firearm and shot the suspect at least once ending the violent confrontation.
The suspect was transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich, suffering from a gunshot wound.  The suspect was later pronounced deceased.  The Montville officer was transported to L&M Hospital where they required multiple staples to close a laceration to their head.
State Troopers from Troop E – Montville responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.  State Police Eastern District Major Crime and the Windham County State Attorney’s Office also responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a post-mortem examination.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.  The name of the officer is being withheld at this time.
