State Police Detectives Investigate Bridgeport Officer-Involved Shooting

Bridgeport, CT. (May 10, 2017): Connecticut State Police Detectives from Western District Major Crime are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Bridgeport.

On May 9, 2017 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Bridgeport Police Officers were attempting to stop a stolen motor vehicle on Park Ave.  The operator of the stolen vehicle refused to stop, and engaged officers in a brief vehicle pursuit with the operator of the stolen vehicle traveling the wrong way on Fairfield Ave. While traveling the wrong way, the stolen vehicle struck several vehicles along Fairfield Ave.

Once the stolen vehicle came to a stop Bridgeport Police Officers approached it in an attempt to apprehend the operator.  As the Bridgeport officers approached, the operator of the stolen vehicle accelerated in reverse and struck at least one Bridgeport Police Officer.  As a result, a second Bridgeport Police Officer fired at least one round from their duty weapon, striking both the operator and front seat passenger.

The operator was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The passenger was transported to Bridgeport Hospital for the evaluation of non-life threatening injuries.  Two Bridgeport Police Officers were transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital with minor injuries.

At the request of the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office, Detectives from Western District Major Crime responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner also responded to the scene and will assist the investigation by conducting a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death.

The identity of the operator is pending positive identification.  The passenger has been identified as Julian Fyffe (dob 07/17/95) of Bridgeport.  The identities of the Bridgeport Police Officers are being withheld at this time.

Anyone with any information, or who may have witnessed any part of the incident is asked text TIP711 and any information to 274637.  All texts will remain confidential.
