State Police Detectives Investigate Bridgeport Police Officer-Involved Shooting

Stratford, CT. (August 8, 2016): Connecticut State Police Detectives from Western District Major Crime are currently investigating a Bridgeport Police Department officer-involved shooting.

On August 7, 2016 at approximately 6:40 p.m., Bridgeport Police Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a stolen motor vehicle.  The vehicle, a 2016 Nissan Sentra, was reported stolen to Bridgeport Police Department early in the day.

The suspect/operator, Josephine Cepeda, of the stolen Nissan refused to stop and engaged Bridgeport Police in a motor vehicle pursuit into Stratford. The pursuit entered Seymour St. in Stratford at which point Cepeda intentionally struck two Bridgeport Police cruisers.  A Bridgeport Police Officer discharged at least one round from their department-issued handgun striking Cepeda.

After a brief struggle with Bridgeport officers, Cepeda was taken into custody and transported to Bridgeport Hospital via EMS for the evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.  No Bridgeport Police Officers were injured.

On August 7, 2016 at approximately 9:45 p.m., the Bridgeport State’s Attorney Office and the Bridgeport Police Chief requested that state police detectives from Western District Major Crime respond to the scene and assume the investigation.

The suspect is identified as:

Josephine Cepeda (dob 8/5/90)

194 Lenox Ave, 1fl,

Bridgeport CT.

The identity of the Bridgeport Police Officer remains pending.
