STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE UNTIMELY DEATH IN SHARON

On November 1, 2011,at 1:15 p.m. State Police Troop B in North Canaan received a 911 call from a person reporting that their elderly neighbor was unconscious in his private home located on Knibloe Hill Road in Sharon.  The Sharon Fire Department, Sharon EMS and State Police responded to the scene.

The 85-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene by responding EMS personnel.  Sharon Firefighters entered the residence, measured the inside air in the home and determined there was a very high CO2 count in the home.

Troopers examined the scene and determined that there was a generator running to supply power to the residence.  The exhaust pipes were properly vented to the outside.  Examination of the muffler showed that it was broken, allowing CO to fill the residence.

The deceased is identified as RICHARD S. ROTHSCHILD,  DOB 5/11/26.

The deceased was removed to the Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner where a post mortem examination will be conduct to determine the manner of death.
