STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE UNTIMELY DEATH

   On November 1, at approximately 11:32 a.m., State Police received a report from the Department of Correction that an inmate had collapsed while playing basketball at the  Bridgeport Correctional Center facility   The inmate was treated at the scene by Bridgeport Correctional Center Medical personnel and was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital by ambulance.  Shortly after admission to the emergency department, the inmate was pronounced dead.

     Troopers determined that prior to the inmate collapsing, he was playing basketball and suddenly collapsed for unknown reasons.  At the time of this incident, the inmate was playing basketball at the indoor gymnasium with several other inmates under the supervision of correctional officers. The preliminary State Police investigation has not revealed any criminal aspect into this death.

     The deceased was positively identified by Department of Correction personnel as
Telsaint, Lugens, DOB 07/12/1991, of Stamford.     

    The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will be performing a post mortem examination of the deceased to determine the cause of death.

   The State Police investigation is continuing.
