                        NEW YEARS ENFORCMENT OPERATION

      The Connecticut State Police will remain very active to enhance public safety on all highways and roads in Connecticut this New Year’s Holiday.  Troopers will utilize various enforcement tools to locate, test, and arrest intoxicated drivers this New Year’s Holiday weekend.

      To accomplish this task State Troopers will utilize both marked and unmarked State Police Patrol Cars as Troopers attempt to remove all unsafe and intoxicated drivers from Connecticut’s roads and highways.

      During New Years Eve 2009-2010 weekend, Troopers issued summons to drivers for the following motor vehicle violations:

      679  Speeding

      69    Seatbelt Violations

      1,295  Other Hazardous Moving Violations (following too close, unsafe lane change, failure to signal etc). 

      Troopers also investigated 475 crashes over that long weekend, two which were fatal. In addition, Troopers arrested 49 drunk drivers during the operation.

      To enhance highway safety, Troopers will be out in force over the entire New Year’s Holiday 2010.  They will be assigned to focus attention to areas where DUI violations and alcohol related crashes take place. SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS will also be set up at various locations across Connecticut (see link below).

      This New Year’s Holiday operation will start on 12/30/10 and continue to 01/01/2011 at midnight. Connecticut State Police remind all motorists that if you drink, DO NOT DRIVE. Designate a sober, non-drinking driver before you partake in any celebration.  If you see a suspected drunk driver on the road, this is a true emergency, call 911 and report it to the police.  Help us help you stay safe this New Year’s Holiday.
