 State Police Make Arrest in Assault Case

     On Friday, June 26, 2009, at approximately 12:47am, Troopers from the Connecticut State Police Barracks at Troop E Montville, and officers from the Ledyard Police Department responded to a disturbance at David’s Café, located at 134 Route 12 in the town of Preston. 

     Upon arrival, of the responding Troopers and Officers, two victims of an apparent assault were located at David’s Café.  Both victims sustained physical injuries, with one of the victims lying unconscious on the sidewalk outside the bar.  That victim was subsequently transported by ambulance to Backus Hospital with serious physical injuries, and remains in critical condition.

     The accused, later identified as EDUARDO ROSARIO, was located a short time later. At approximately 2:02am Rosario was placed under arrest, and transported to Troop E in Montville.  Rosario was processed and charged in this incident. He was held on $500,000 bond and arraigned on June 26, 2009 at GA-21, located at 1 Courthouse Square in the town of Norwich for the below listed charges. State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad Detectives continued the investigation into this incident.

** UPDATE**

    

     On 07/01/09 at 4:55 p.m.  the victim in this incident identified as MICHAEL HALPERT of the U.S. Navy Groton, Ct. died at Backus Hospital in Norwich.  A post mortem examination of the deceased will take place at the Office of the Chief States Medical Examiner.  The State Police investigation is continuing.
