STATE POLICE MOTOR VEHICLE FRAUD TASK FORCE ARREST SUSPECT

Connecticut State Police Detectives continue the criminal investigation into the paying of bribes to DMV employees to obtain Connecticut drivers' licenses. Several arrests have been made and the investigation continues.

After extensive investigation in this case which included the gathering of evidence and information, State Police Detectives determined that the accused Patel was acting as a “middleman” at the Department of Motor Vehicle and that accused PATEL brought members of the Community to the DMV Office in Bridgeport where he accepted bribes that were paid to former DMV Employees to fraudulently issue Connecticut Driver’s Licenses

State Police submitted an arrest warrant application to Superior Court GA #2 Bridgeport for the arrest of the accused, Daxeshkumar Vinod Patel, a.k.a. "Jigu", DOB 09/30/78, of 235 Grisson Lane, Hoffman Estates, Illinois.  The arrest warrant was issued by the court and Connecticut State Police Detectives located Patel in the State of Illinois. The Hoffman Estates Police Department assisted Connecticut State Police by taking the accused Patel into custody in Illinois on October 11, 2007.  Patel was presented in Illinois court and at that time waived extradition back to the State of Connecticut to answer these criminal charges.

On Tuesday night, October 16, 2007, State Police Detectives returned Patel back to Connecticut.  Patel was transported to Troop G in Bridgeport, where he was processed and charged  with one count of the Corrupt Organization Racketeering Activities Act in violation of C.G.S. 53-395, six counts of Criminal Liability, Forgery II in violation of C.G.S. 53-8/53a-139, six counts of Conspiracy to Commit Forgery II in violation of C.G.S. 53a-48/53a-139, six counts of Bribery in violation of C.G.S. 53a-147 & six counts of Conspiracy to Commit Bribery in violation of C.G.S. 53a-48/53a-147.

Patel is being held on bond and will be arraigned in Superior Court GA #2 Bridgeport on October 17, 2007.
