FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CASE #DPS06-006822

DATE / TIME:  02/09/2006 @ 1939

Approximately 7:39 p.m., Troop “K” – Colchester received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident on RT-16, approximately ½ mile east of its’ intersection with RT-149.  A short time later, Troop “K” received a second 911 call reporting another accident in the same location, this time involving a pedestrian.

Troopers from Troop “K” as well as Colchester Officers responded to the area and found a female victim lying in the roadway.  The victim was subsequently transported to W.W. Backus Hospital in Norwich via Life Star Helicopter, where she was pronounced dead.

A State Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene.  Preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that was avoiding the first accident.

No charges have been brought against any of the involved parties at this time and the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to contact Trooper McManaway at Troop “K” at (860) 537-7500.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
