Mercury Information for Hospitals, Healthcare Facilities and Healthcare Providers

Federal and state laws have been enacted to virtually eliminate anthropogenic mercury from the environment. Some of the common uses of mercury that may be found in healthcare facilities are:

  • Thermometers
  • Sphygmomanometers (blood pressure monitors
  • Esophageal dilators (also called bougie tubes)
  • Cantor tubes and Miller Abbott tubes (used to clear intestinal obstructions)
