Heating Oil and Propane Prices
Heating Oil and Propane Survey

DEEP conducts a weekly survey of heating oil and propane dealers in the state of Connecticut. Heating oil dealers are surveyed weekly year- round, while propane dealers are only surveyed during the winter months from October thru March. Dealers are asked to provide the average pricing information for their particular location. DEEP provides the pricing information to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), which aggregates the information. Weekly heating oil and propane prices can be found on the EIA website.

Note: Propane prices may vary based on the amount of fuel purchased. Connecticut collects prices based on whole-house heating usage.

View the results of the weekly Connecticut Regional Retail Heating Oil Price Survey. DEEP also tracks weekly wholesale heating oil prices based on information provided by a third party.

Retail Natural Gas Prices

EIA tracks natural gas prices for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Prices are generally tracked on a monthly basis. EIA tracks information for all 50 states and provides historical information going back as far as 2001.

Current and historical gasoline and diesel pricing information can be found on a variety of websites. DEEP only references the sources below, but does not endorse the information contained within. The following information is being provided as a resource.

AAA Gas Prices

AAA provides daily and recent gasoline and diesel fuel pricesfor different regions in Connecticut. In addition, you can query average pricing information for all the states in the nation.

GasBuddy

This site provides current and historical gasoline and diesel fuel prices for all the states in the nation. You can query pricing charts for up to five years of information, and can compare prices in different locations.

EIA

EIA tracks gasoline and diesel fuel prices from various major regions and cities in the country. However, unlike the sources above, EIA does not track information specifically for Connecticut transportation fuel prices.

Retail Electricity Prices
Connecticut Retail Electricity Rates

EIA tracks monthly electricity prices for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Prices can also be found via the Electricity Data Browser on the EIA website. Once in the website, you must choose the report you wish to create. To find the electricity prices, you must choose the pre-generated report titled, 5.4 Retail Sales of Electricity to Ultimate Customers by End Use Sector, by State.

Connecticut Generation Rates

Connecticut residents and businesses are allowed to choose a generation supplier of their choice. EnergizeCT allows customers to compare generation supplier rates across many suppliers that may lower electricity costs.

Wholesale and Spot Prices

EIA tracks a variety of wholesale and spot prices for major fuels. Spot prices are generally provided on a daily basis. Wholesale prices are provided on a weekly basis. Much of the information can be found in the following links:

Temperature Data

The National Weather Service tracks daily and historical temperature and heating/cooling degree days for various locations in the United States, including Hartford.

Historical station information, including temperature data, for Bradley International Airport can be viewed on The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration website going back as far as 1942.
