Lt. Governor Wyman Applauds $200,000 In Grants Awarded By The Connecticut Health Foundation

(HARTFORD, CT) – Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman applauded news that the Connecticut Health Foundation has awarded two grants totaling $200,000 to advance several Connecticut healthcare initiatives.

“I want to thank the Connecticut Health Foundation for its support,” said Lt. Governor Wyman. “These resources will certainly help us in our efforts, but more importantly, the funding will ultimately benefit all Connecticut residents. I’ve always said that we need to work together to improve our healthcare system—these grants are even more meaningful in that they highlight the partnerships we are building outside of the government sector.”

The first grant, in the amount of $80,000, will assist in the development and organization of the Office of Health Strategy (OHS). OHS is a budget-neutral entity with bipartisan support that will centralize the state’s work on healthcare and coordinate and advance Connecticut’s health policy strategy. The funding will support ongoing efforts to reduce healthcare costs, expand coverage, address healthcare inequities, and implement other healthcare reforms more efficiently.

“Having the state’s health policy efforts aligned in one office will help immensely in the critical work that must be done to improve the quality and affordability of health care in Connecticut,” said Patricia Baker, president and CEO of the Connecticut Health Foundation. “The concept was one of the recommendations of the Governor’s Healthcare Cabinet following a year of study that included examining models used in other states to contain costs and improve care. We are pleased to be able to help the planning process to ensure the new office will be best positioned to succeed.”

The second grant, in the amount of $120,000, will support a pilot project to examine data collection and its impact on strengthening health equity. Connecticut, like many states, faces racial and ethnic gaps in coverage, treatment, and healthcare outcomes. This funding will support ongoing work by the state’s health information technology team to develop data collection systems that also work to close that gap.

The Connecticut Health Foundation is an independent private organization that focuses on advancing health equity in an effort to strengthen healthcare. The organization made $575,000 in grants this quarter.
