Gov. Malloy & Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements On Federal Court Rejection Of President Trump's Transgender Troop Ban
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today released the following statements regarding the ruling released today by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia blocking President Trump’s order to ban transgender people from serving in the military:
Governor Malloy said, “The message today to the Trump administration is clear – any attempts to mandate discrimination through executive order will ultimately be ruled illegal and unconstitutional. Those who enlist for military service represent the very best of our very diverse nation – regardless of gender identity or expression. While this case is far from resolved, our hope is that reason will continue to prevail through any other subsequent court actions.”
Lt. Governor Wyman said, “This is a step in the right direction in overturning a ban that never should have been instated to begin with. It is my hope that the transgender residents serving in the military today take strength from the court’s decision. Gender plays no role in determining the honor, integrity, and expertise of our Armed Forces. We are grateful to all who serve.”
