In order to practice social distancing and slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), public access to our building, 165 Capitol Avenue, will be restricted. Although in-person interactions will be limited, our office staff will be available via email as normal. Secretary Merrill Receives the Resignation of State Representative Chris Soto

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill today received the resignation of State Representative Chris Soto, effective at 5:00pm. The letter of resignation is attached to this release.

Under state law, the governor has ten days to issue a writ of election to choose a successor in the 39th State House district. That special election must be held on the 46th day after the issuance of the writ of election. Major party conventions must take place by 36 days before the special election.
