From: T. William Knapp
Executive Director
Date: May 30, 2003
Subject: Basic Recruit Training Curriculum
On September 5, 2002, the Police Officer Standards and Training Council adopted a requirement that probationary candidate police officers completing a POST Council approved Basic Law Enforcement Training program that started on or after January 1, 2003, would have to successfully complete the PURSUIT AND CONTROL physical ability demonstration exercise, and the VEHICLE PUSH AND EXTRICATION physical ability demonstration exercise before those candidates would be granted initial police officer certification.
Due to the construction enhancements and expansion the testing area at the Academy has become unusable for the purpose of correctly, accurately and safely administering the physical ability tests.
Consequently, the Council at its May 15, 2003 meeting voted unanimously to postpone the physical ability testing.
The new date on which the physical ability testing will become effective is for any Basic Law Enforcement Training program starting on or after January 1, 2004.
