Internship Opportunities

Would you like to learn more about the inner workings of State Government and a variety of career fields?  The Office of Policy and Management (OPM) offers unpaid student internship opportunities each semester (Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer) for students in good academic standing who are actively pursuing an advanced or undergraduate degree.  Our internship program provides qualified students the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the workforce.  To be eligible to intern at our agency, participants must be in good standing with their learning institution and actively pursuing an advanced or undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, JD or PhD).

Internships can be customized to meet the students’ interests and educational background.  Students must be available for a minimum of 10 hours per week. Since the academic requirements of participating institutions of higher education may vary, each intern should consult with his or her college or university advisor or internship director for specific academic requirements and credits to be awarded (if applicable) for participation in the program. 

Unpaid interns may not independently perform the regular work performed by employees; however they may shadow employees to gain experience and/or complete assignments, write papers, develop proposals, issue surveys, and collect data, etc. as part of their educational experience as approved by their learning institution. 

A workable and mutually beneficial relationship between the students, their instructors, and OPM is a major goal of the internship program.  Every effort will be made to affect a match that is satisfactory to all parties.  All internships are unpaid.

Process: Interested students should submit (1) a completed application form, (2) a completed college internship verification form (if the internship will be for academic credit),(3) a cover letter, (4) a resume, (5) a list of coursework directly relevant to the internship, and (6) a copy of their school transcript Note: Transcripts do not need to be the “official” version.  All required documents should be e-mailed to opm.internships@ct.gov

Application Deadlines:

Spring Semester – November 1^st;

Summer - April 1^st;

Fall Semester – July 15^th.
