Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements on Court Decision Regarding Asylum-Seeking Children Who Were Separated from Their Parents and Sent to Connecticut

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding Judge Victor Bolden’s ruling today that the Trump administration unconstitutionally separated two children who are seeking asylum and were forcibly taken from their parents in Texas and sent to Connecticut by immigration officials under a Trump administration policy:

Governor Malloy said, “President Trump’s family separation policy is not only cruel and heartless, it’s un-American. It is clear that the children victimized by the administration’s actions will carry scars from this traumatic experience for the rest of their lives. This ruling is a step in the right direction to ensuring that the two children who are currently located in Connecticut receive the services they need and are reunited with their families post haste. But this court decision is hardly consolation for the child abuse inflicted by this president. As a state, we must continue to stand up for the most vulnerable in our society who have been repeatedly attacked by the Trump administration.”

Lt. Governor Wyman said, “The Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy on immigration continues to inflict pain and suffering to our most vulnerable populations, including two immigrant children detained in Connecticut. These are not the values our nation, which was built on open-mindedness and inclusion. We, the people of Connecticut, must continue to stand up against the Trump administration for these populations who are not able to advocate for themselves.”
