Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut Deployed More National Guard Resources to the Caribbean Saturday to Continue with Hurricane Maria Recovery

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut on Saturday afternoon deployed a second C-130H cargo plane and seven additional Airmen from the 103rd Airlift Wing of the Connecticut National Guard to the Caribbean to continue assistance with Hurricane Maria recovery efforts. The unit, which departed from Bradley Air National Guard Base in East Granby, includes C-130H pilots, crewmembers, loadmasters, and maintainers.

The crew is scheduled to deliver supplies to St. Croix and San Juan, Puerto Rico. From there they will fly to Georgia to stand by for potential follow-up missions.

This is the second C-130H cargo plane and crew that the Connecticut National Guard has sent to the region to assist with Hurricane Maria efforts. The first crew of seven Airmen departed on a C-130H cargo plane on Friday morning to deliver supplies to St. Thomas and Puerto Rico. From there, that crew will also station in Georgia to stand-by for potential follow-up missions.

“Once again, we have additional National Guard members who dropped everything at a moment’s notice to support those who live hundreds of miles away,” Governor Malloy said. “We continue to be in contact with our federal counterparts and emergency management officials in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands as recovery efforts continue. I thank the Connecticut National Guard for their continued efforts in aiding our friends to the south.”
