Gov. Malloy & Lt. Gov. Wyman Applaud House Approval of State Employee Concession Agreement
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today released the following statements applauding the Connecticut House of Representatives for voting to approve the concessions agreement with state employees:
Governor Malloy said, “The vote in the House today approving a plan with significant, structural changes that will save state taxpayers $1.5 billion over the next two years is a major step forward in creating the foundation for a responsible, balanced budget that will help put our state on a more stable and sustainable path. These lawmakers made the right decision in favor of a deal that – as time goes on – will result in approximately $24 billion in long-term savings for taxpayers.
“When we asked labor to come to the table and be part of the solution, our state workers answered the call. And I remind lawmakers that as each day goes by with this plan unapproved, certain savings that this agreement will create will dissipate. I urge the Senate to adopt this agreement in concurrence with the House so that it can go into effect and these savings can develop as soon as possible. We will continue to be available to meet with any legislator who may have questions about the value and significant of this agreement.”
Lt. Governor Wyman said, “Connecticut’s state employees unions came together to deliver a concessions package – one that helps us build a stronger long-term budget. I thank them for their partnership and applaud the House for passing this agreement. It will put us in a better fiscal position now and well into the future.”
